Disabled vets still paying METRO tolls
Another delay at METRO: Nine months after we asked transit CEO why disabled vets are forced to pay tolls in HOV-HOT lanes, still no action

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Months ago we reported on a Houston METRO Policy that was forcing disabled vets to pay tolls. State law suggests they shouldn't have to.

Indeed, most toll roads across Texas, such as the Hardy and Beltway 8 here in Houston, are toll free to anyone with a disabled veteran license plate.

But in METRO's HOV-HOT lanes, disabled vets have to pay up.

We heard about this back in October and we brought the issue to METRO. And METRO promised to do something.

"We're going to tee that up for a policy discussion," METRO CEO Tom Lambert told us at the time.

It's a policy discussion about a decision that would cost METRO less than $20,000 a year.

At the time, Lambert seemed to say he backed the change.

We asked if the vets deserved it.

"I think so," Lambert told us.

But nine and a half months later nothing's changed.

METRO still doesn't even have that policy discussion on an agenda to discuss.
