HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Video game developer, Blizzard has reportedly finalized a deal for $20 million with Texas Rangers co-owner Neil Liebman to secure an Overwatch League franchise for Houston.
What is Overwatch? It is a popular team-based multiplayer online first-person shooter video game. The game was released in May 2016 and reportedly has over $1 billion in sales.
Overwatch League franchises have been announced in 11 other cities including Austin-Dallas, Philadelphia, London, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami-Orlando, Seoul, Shanghai and San Francisco.
Notable Overwatch League team owners are New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke.
There is no word yet on the name of the Houston team, who the players will be, or the venue in which they will play.
