Wade Phillips to present Bum Phillips trophy
This weekend the inaugural 'Bum Phillips Bowl' will be played and Wade Phillips will present the trophy

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Port Neches and Nederland both very special in the Phillips household, Bum coached at both. Wade played quarterback and middle linebacker at PNG back in the mid 60s.

Wade laughs thinking back on those days. He says, "I thought I was a quarterback, a better linebacker."

Friday night the Indians and bulldogs will meet for the 91st time. The mid-county madness rivalry renamed the "Bum Phillips Bowl" in honor of Bum. Bum Phillips coached at both Nederland where he started his high school career and PNG where he finished it.

Wade will present the winner a trophy like no other. A gold football wearing a replica of Bum's cowboy hat, Wade says "It's really neat really special, dad would make a joke about it he was humble about it, those two schools were really special to him."

Bum actually passed away during the PNG/Nederland game last year. The score was tied 7-7 at the time. Without a doubt, Bum's spirit will be felt when the two meet Friday night. Wade says it's going to be tough to present the trophy.

Both schools are winners, having the trophy in his dad's name tops it off.
