Stephen Curry says 2017 free agency 'isn't really appealing'

SAN FRANCISCO -- Golden State Warriors guard and NBA MVP Stephen Curry is giving no indication that he'll leave the reigning world champs when his contract is up.

"As I am thinking right now, free agency isn't really appealing to me because I love where I'm at, love the organization I'm playing for and the Bay Area is home for me and my family," Curry told the Sporting News while at a golf event sponsored by Degree Men.

Curry becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2017 but currently is just the team's fifth-highest paid player with a $11.37 million salary for the 2015-16 season. If he goes to free agency, Curry can earn a five-year max contract that could pay him in excess of $30 million per season.

Curry, however, cautioned against getting too focused on the long term.

"I think the best approach for me is to try and stay as in the moment as possible," the 27-year-old said.

Curry said he hopes to help Golden State continue its recent success long into the future.

"It helps being world champs, and you want to continue to build the momentum that we've established and I hope to have a huge part of that in the long term," Curry said.

The Warriors won the 2015 NBA championship with Curry scoring 28.3 points per game. He also set a playoff record with 98 made 3-pointers in one postseason.
