Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is in Houston working with renowned substance-abuse counselor John Lucas while serving his four-game suspension, a source confirmed to ESPN.
The Houston Chronicle first reported Bryant's treatment with Lucas, a former NBA player who overcame addiction and helps many prominent athletes with off-field issues.
Bryant, a talented receiver who caught eight touchdowns as a rookie, is missing four games after multiple failed marijuana tests. He can return to the practice and playing fields after the Steelers' Oct. 1 game against Baltimore. He'll be eligible for the Monday Night Football matchup with San Diego on Oct. 12.
ESPN reported last week that the Steelers agreed Bryant could train out of state for most of his suspension, assuming he stays in shape and gets his life in order.
While meeting with the media Tuesday, coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Bryant is not with the team but declined to discuss specifics. Shortly after Bryant's suspension in late August, Tomlin said Bryant has problems "bigger than football" and that he would support his player through the process. Bryant spoke with Tomlin before leaving town.
