PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Martin Kaymer treated Friday like a brand-new day and wound up building his lead at The Players Championship.
Kaymer rolled in two long birdie putts and made two good par saves for a 3-under 69. That put him six shots ahead of anyone else playing in the same wave at the TPC Sawgrass. The German was at 12-under 132.
Jim Furyk had a 68 and was at 138, while the group at 5-under 193 included Bae Sang-Moon, Bill Haas and George McNeill.
Kaymer opened with a course-record-tying 63. He said all he wanted was to play well and be somewhere around par, and it worked.
Adam Scott had a 67 and was at par 144, on the bubble for making the cut.
