Soccer team raising money to attend national championship
They're a premier 14 and under soccer team, and they've earned their shot at a national championship on the East Coast. But they need your help to make it there

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- They play more like a band of brothers than a bunch of teammates on a premier 14 and under soccer team, and now that they've earned their shot at a national championship on the east coast, they are trying to make sure they're able to get there.

Team Mana had a great regular season. They won the state cup and were finalist in a multi-state tournament in Louisiana two weeks ago. That earned them one of eight spots in nationals in Maryland.

"We're representing a bunch of teams and knowing that we are the best from Houston is a good feeling," said Jonathan Cervantes on Team Mana.

Their 2014 run, which has them competing for a national championship is rooted in deep bonds. They've played together since age 8 and are more like brothers than teammates.

Coach Jose has documented their years together in a photo album.

"We understand each other, how we move how we talk,' said Fabian Becerra. "We talk each other like we are brothers and we communicate fluently."

Team Mana, though, is struggling to come up with all the expenses associated with an east coast nationals tournament. Their premier league donated several hundred and they've raised a few thousand more, but still lack a few thousand.

"All the expenses have been getting from the parents," said team manager Sandra Banos. "They've been working hard extra hours to get more money because we don't have any sponsors."

So Team Mana will keep practicing twice a week as parents work extra for what they call a tournament of a lifetime.

The team is still collecting money for the trip. If you can help, contact Sandra at 832-298-5089.
