Josh Sweat, a five-star Class of 2015 defensive end and the fifth-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300, committed to Florida State on Wednesday in a ceremony at Oscar Frommel Smith High in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Sweat, the former top-ranked prospect in the country, becomes the 10th ESPN 300 pledge for the Seminoles, who now have the No. 2-ranked class in 2015.

A 2015 Under Armour All-America Game selection, Sweat picked Florida State over Virginia Tech and Georgia. He made official visits to Ohio State and Oregon, along with the Seminoles, Hokies and Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-5, 239-pound Sweat was the top prospect until suffering a dislocated knee and ACL tear in a game Sept. 19. Prior to the injury, he had 25 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight sacks and eight receptions for 210 yards and four touchdowns in just two-plus games this season.

Sweat is rehabbing his injured knee following surgery Oct. 7 in New York performed by New York Giants team physician Russell Warren. Sweat is set to graduate from Oscar Frommel Smith this month and plans to enroll at Florida State in January.

His rise to the top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2015 came after he was the star of July's The Opening football camp at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. He clocked a blazing 4.46 40-yard dash time, a jaw-dropping 4.00 pro agility shuttle and a 38.3-inch vertical jump.

Sweat becomes the second five-star prospect to commit to Florida State, joining No. 10 overall George Campbell. This becomes the third straight class that Florida State has reeled in an ESPN 300 prospect from Virginia, with Sweat joining defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (No. 253 in 2014) and inside linebacker E.J. Levenberry (No. 291 in 2013).

The Seminoles have 21 commitments and remain in the running for No. 1 Terry Beckner Jr., No. 2 Byron Cowart, No. 8 Kendall Sheffield, No. 9 CeCe Jefferson, No. 58 Da'Vante Phillips, No. 277 Kris Boyd and others.
