Jaromir Jagr takes stick to face, loses teeth in Panthers' win

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Aleksander Barkov scored the winning goal in a shootout -- but it was a suddenly toothless Jaromir Jagr who stole the headlines in the Florida Panthers' 2-1 win over theOttawa Senatorson Tuesday night.

The Panthers won their fifth straight game on a night when Jagr had an assist before leaving the game after losing four teeth because of a stick to the face.

Jagr bled profusely from his mouth after he was hit by Alex Chiasson's stick midway through the first period.

"I lost some teeth, but I increased my speed as you can see it on the breakaway,'' Jagr joked.

He tweeted a photo of his gap-toothed mouth after the game, saying: "Dear Santa, can I get a new teeth for Christmas :) it's going to be tough to eat-good -at least I don't get fat :)))."

On the way to the bench, Jagr stopped to pat Chiasson on the back of the head.

"I obviously didn't mean to hit him,'' Chiasson said. "It was nice of him to shake it off a little bit.''

Jagr previously lost three teeth during a game in 2007.

In the shootout,Brandon Pirri also scored for Florida. Roberto Luongo stopped both Ottawa attempts to give the Panthers their fifth straight win. Florida has won 11 of its past 14.

Corban Knight scored in regulation for the Panthers, and Luongo made 15 saves.

Mark Stone scored for Ottawa, and Craig Anderson stopped 39 shots.

The Senators have lost five of their past seven, and five straight on the road.

Ottawa had just 12 shots through the first two periods, only two in the third and one in overtime.

Stone tied the score 1-all with his power-play goal 1:31 into the third. Erik Karlsson's shot from the point bounced off Stone and over Luongo's shoulder into the net.

Knight put the Panthers ahead 1-0 at 9:14 of the first. He took a pass from Quinton Howden in the left circle and poked the puck past Anderson.

Game notes

Panthers C Derek MacKenzie and D Alex Petrovic both returned to the lineup. MacKenzie missed four games and Petrovic sat out 12. ... Senators forward Bobby Ryan missed the game with a hand injury. Ryan Dzingel made his NHL debut in Ryan's place. . D Cody Ceci sat out with an upper-body injury.
