Houston Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley will have surgery on his left knee, the club confirmed on Monday.
According to the franchise, the former United States international will undergo a procedure to remove loose bodies in the joint later this week.
No immediate timetable was given for his return.
Meanwhile, Beasley took to Instagram to announce the news, saying "gutted" that he won't be with his teammates for "a while."

Beasley was taken off during Houston's 0-0 draw with Orlando City on Friday with the injury.
The 34-year-old veteran has been named to the starting XI in 17 of the Houston's 18 MLS matches this season, ranking third on the team in minutes played with 1,381.
Sheanon Williams, who came on for Beasley after the injury, Abdoulie Mansally and Alex Lima are the top candidates to replace him in the lineup.
