THE WOODLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- Former Pearland High School and University of Texas football star Fozzy Whittaker is set to compete for the ultimate championship in the world, the Super Bowl.

Whittaker is in his third season with the Carolina Panthers and his mom, Gloria, couldn't be more excited for the big game.

Gloria says she can't even explain the feeling.

"When you see your child being able to do something, their life dream, that they would want to be there," Gloria Whittaker said. "That's a proud feeling, it is so awesome."

Fozzy lost his father to cancer when he was only three-years-old, which fueled his passion for football.

His mom keeps all of his keepsakes and trophies at their home in The Woodlands. She will be joining Fozzy's fianc, son and two brothers later this week in Santa Clara, California.
