LONDON -- On the eve of their game against the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium, the Detroit Lions have suspended defensive tackle C.J. Mosley and sent him home from England.
The Lions announced Saturday that they have suspended Mosley for two weeks for an unspecified violation of team rules and conduct detrimental to the team. They have placed him on the reserve/suspended by the team list.
The 31-year-old Mosley is the Lions' No. 3 defensive tackle behind starters Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley and has had 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks this season.
Detroit promoted safety Jerome Couplin -- who was cut Monday and re-signed to the team's practice squad and flown over to England on Wednesday -- to take Mosley's place.
With Mosley out, the Lions will look to rookie Caraun Reid, who has two tackles this season, to fill in, potentially along with defensive ends Jason Jones and Devin Taylor. Jones has played on the interior during certain Detroit packages this season, and Taylor played there during offseason workouts.
This is the first time Detroit has suspended a player this season and the first for the Lions since Travis Lewis was suspended four games for violation of the league's performance-enhancing substance policy last season.
