NEW YORK -- The Yankees placed catcher Brian McCann on the seven-day concussion DL Saturday morning after a neurologist reviewed his symptoms.
During Friday's sixth inning, Yankees manager Joe Girardi had Francisco Cervelli pinch-hit for McCann, who was feeling the effects of a Mike Aviles' third-inning foul ball off his mask.
"He talked about his jaw," Girardi said Friday, referring to the moments after the foul ball. "He thought his jaw got jammed. Then talking to him later when he came in in the sixth, he felt he was a little foggy."
To replace McCann on the roster, the Yankees called up Austin Romine. Cervelli started on Saturday at catcher against the Cleveland Indians.
McCann is hitting .238 with 13 homers and 49 RBIs this season.
On Friday, when McCann did not want to come out, Girardi said he took the decision out of his hands.
"I said, 'You're out,'" Girardi said.
