HOUSTON -- Texans inside linebacker Brian Cushing returned to practice on Wednesday and said there is a "possibility" that he plays on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Cushing sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the season opener against the Chicago Bears. He was reported to miss four to six weeks with the injury.

Cushing said that he and the team are just taking it "day-by-day," and that there is a big difference between participating in practice and playing in a full game.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Cushing will be evaluated after each practice this week to see if he will be able to play on Sunday.

Cushing has played in 30 of 32 regular-season games the past two seasons but missed time in 2012 after tearing his ACL and again in 2013 after tearing his LCL and breaking his leg.

The veteran had 100 combined tackles, including four for a loss and a forced fumble last season.

Inside linebacker Max Bullough has played in place of Cushing so far. He has 12 combined tackles in three games this season.
