The Houston Astros have agreed to one-year deal with starting pitcher Mike Fiers, avoiding arbitration.
The club did not disclose the terms of the deal. According to the Houston Chronicle, Fiers will earn $3.45 million in 2017, a significant bump from his $524,100 salary in 2016.
Fiers, 31, originally requested $3.9 million from the Astros when arbitration figures were exchanged earlier this month, per FanRag Sports. Houston countered with a $3 million offer, but the sides eventually met in the middle.
Fiers, a right-hander, posted a 4.48 ERA in 168 2/3 innings (30 starts) for the Astros last season, winning a career-high 11 games. Some of his numbers represented a regression from 2015, when he compiled a 3.32 ERA and threw a no-hitter.
Houston's arbitration-eligible players who remain unsigned include utility infielder Marwin Gonzalez, starting pitcher Collin McHugh and reliever Will Harris.
