Astros' Colby Rasmus recalls time at LLWS
Did you know that 16 years ago a bleach-blonde, 12-year-old Rasmus helped lead his Phenix City, Alabama team to the Little League World Series?

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Colby Rasmus is a huge reason the Astros have stayed in first place most of the season. But did you know that 16 years ago a bleach-blonde, 12-year-old Rasmus helped lead his Phenix City, Alabama team to the Little League World Series?

Rasmus was playing with the same boys he started playing baseball with at age six.

Rasmus, a pitcher on the team, helped lead Phenix City all the way to Williamsport in 1999. They lost to Japan in the final game, but won the US Championship after battling their way back through the losers' bracket.

Rasmus remembers a walk-off win in an elimination game.

"We played against a team from Indiana with Lance Lynn -- he pitches for the Cardinals now. They led us in the last inning with two outs, but our catcher hit a grand slam to win the game. That was pretty cool," Rasmus said.

Playing in Williamsport a dream come true for Rasmus.
