The Houston Astros called up top prospect Alex Bregman following their 13-3 win over the Angels on Sunday.

Bregman, a right-handed hitter, created some excitement among Astros fans after his three-hit performance in the Futures Game during the All-Star Break. He was hitting .333 with six home runs and 15 RBIs in 18 games at Class AAA Fresno.

Before that, Bregman hit .297 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs at Class AA Corpus Christi.

Ranked No. 19 in Keith Law's top 100 prospect rankings, Bregman was no. 2 overall selection in the 2015 draft.

Defensively, he has played at shortstop, third base, and left field during his time in the minors. With second base and shortstop already spoken for in Houston because of Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, Bregman will most likely have to shift to third base or left field upon arrival at Minute Maid Park.

Quinton McCracken, Houston's director of player development, has previously spoken very highly of Bregman.

"The kid is a baseball player," McCracken said. "He's a grinder, he's a grunt, he's a baseball rat and a competitor. He gets the best out of his tool set. He's still young in his pro career, but he's really hit the ground running."

"We don't want to get the cart before the horse here," McCracken said. "But he's definitely making a statement. There's no if, ands or buts about it."

Information from ESPN's Jerry Crasnick was used in this report.
