Whataburger pledges $1.65 million for Harvey relief

AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) -- Texas' homegrown burger shop has made a sizable donation to help those impacted by Hurricane Harvey get back on their feet.

Whataburger announced Wednesday that it had committed $1.65 million to various relief efforts. The chain will donate $1 million to the Whataburger Family Foundation to help employees impacted by the storm and will establish local Family Member Support Centers in Corpus Christi and Houston to assist employees with hurricane recovery.

Additionally, Whataburger will donate $150,000 to the Red Cross and $500,000 to local food banks.

"To all our Family Members and neighbors who were impacted by this storm's devastation, we stand with you. The path to recovering and rebuilding is long, but we're here for you and we'll get through this together," Whataburger chairman Tom Dobson said in a news release.
