'Unadoptable' Chinese boy finds new home in the US

KANSAS CITY, MO (KTRK) -- A 9-year-old Chinese boy with spina bifida, considered by some to be "unadoptable," is now about to start a new life in the U.S.

Jia-Jia was greeted by his new family in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Chinese orphan had been waiting his whole life to be adopted after he was abandoned as a baby, and time was running out.

In China, the law says kids can no longer be adopted once they turn 14.

Plus, his new parents, Brian and Jeri Wilson kept running into a mountain of challenges.

But after months of paper work and donations from all around the world, the Wilsons were finally able to bring Jia-Jia home.

"As soon as he looked at us, he smiled," says Jeri Wilson. "It's like he's already been a part of our family forever.

Now that he's in the U.S., Jia-Jia has already chosen a new, American name: Jason.
