ROSENBERG, TX (KTRK) -- Developers are planning to build a massive outlet shopping center in Rosenberg.

The city of Rosenberg has signed a memorandum of understanding with Paragon Outlet Partners to build a 400,000 square foot shopping destination near the corner of Highway 69 and Reading Road.

According to city leaders, the project is projected to generate approximately $75 million in taxable property value, $160 million in taxable sales, and 1,000-1,500 permanent jobs. In the shorter term, construction is expected to generate about 400 jobs.

"The selection of Rosenberg as the location of Paragon Outlets' next outlet shopping development emphasizes the tremendous residential growth we are experiencing, as well as the viability of the Rosenberg market area for retail development," said Rosenberg Economic Development Director Randall Malik. "The Paragon Outlets Houston development will be the only Outlet Mall in the Southwest Houston Region, and as such, will be a regional draw, infusing outside dollars into our local economy, and increasing our community's exposure in the region."

The outlet shopping development is scheduled to open as soon as 2016.
