Ted Cruz Focuses on next battle after Iowa win

MANCHESTER, NH (KTRK) -- Less than 24 hours after winning Iowa caucuses, Senator Ted Cruz has already held two rallies in two other states. His campaign flew overnight Monday to Manchester New Hampshire and then to Greenville, South Carolina.

Cruz says he knows Iowa wasn't enough. He told Eyewitness News on board the campaign plane, which he calls, "Constitution 1," that this just is the beginning.

"We're going to keep doing what we did in Iowa," Cruz said standing next to his wife Heidi. "Here on the ground in New Hampshire and South Carolina we're going build the grassroots army and earn every vote we can."

Cruz won Iowa by four percentage points over rival Donald Trump. Cruz says the win defied the pundits expectations, but it was earned with 2,000 volunteers on the ground in Iowa. The campaign contends it has 200,000 volunteers nationwide.

"A grassroots campaign takes time," he said. "It's not built over night. It's not based on moments of media sizzle that can fade as quickly as it rises. Instead it's slow, it's incremental," said Cruz.

Cruz flew back to New Hampshire after leaving South Carolina. His schedule includes several events a day in The Granite State until the primary next Tuesday, February 9.
