Former DOJ prosecutor: Nothing unusual about speedy Clinton email review

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The FBI's expedited review of newly uncovered emails related to the Hillary Clinton investigation surprised many Sunday, but screening that information in just days is well within the agency's abilities, according to a former United States Department of Justice prosecutor.

Marc Miller is an attorney who worked in the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the DOJ. While the original Clinton email investigation took more than a year, the review of the new emails wrapped up in just days. This speedy inquiry is not unheard of, Miller said.

"This type of task, which is retrieving emails from somebody's personal computer, is not overly complicated. It would require a little bit of extra manpower," Miller said.

Miller believes what is unusual was FBI Director James Comey making any of these public announcements regarding pending investigations so close to Election Day.

"It is a little bit unusual across the board, but at least we have more information so that voters can make their own decisions," Miller said.

He said Comey's announcements seem to be a breach of DOJ policy.

"The long-standing policy for the United States Justice Department, that covers both the FBI and prosecutors in the Justice Department, is you don't comment on pending investigations."
