DEDHAM, Massachusetts -- A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after her pig became obese.

The Animal Rescue League in Boston is now caring for the 196-pound pig known as Maybelle.

They said the pig weighs double what she should, and is so heavy she cannot stand up or even open her eyes.

"It's not healthy," ARL Law Enforcement Officer Darleen Wood told WBZ-TV. "It's not healthy for an animal to be malnourished, nor is it good to be obese, even a pig."

The Animal Rescue League said Maybelle was so overweight, a backboard had to be used to carry her out.

Maybelle's owner, Megan Caterino, had two pigs previously removed from her home, according to Billerica Animal Control.
