HOUSTON, Texas -- Weeks after being shot seven times, Deputy Constable Justin Gay talked about his long recovery ahead.
Gay was shot seven times earlier last month, responding to a domestic disturbance in northwest Harris County.
"All I saw and all I remember is that bright flash and that loud pop," he said. "It will be a night that will stick with me until my time comes to an end."
Gay told ABC13 that he did not think he would see his baby son, Xavier, get his first two teeth or be able to sit with his wife again.
"I was shot in my thigh, both knees and right leg. Shot in the left knee once, right knee twice and both thighs -- seven times total," Gay said.
While waiting for paramedics to arrive, Gay said he thought he would die if he didn't get help.

"I thought about my parents. I didn't' want them to bury their only child. I thought about her, my wife, being a widow at such a young age," he said.
Gay's wife, Olevia, said she knew her husband would be fine.
"I knew Justin was going to be fine. He gets through anything," she said.
He can't put any pressure on his knees, so he must continue to use a wheelchair. Not only does he plan to fully walk again, but he has plans to get back to work.
Gay said he prays for the man accused of shooting him.
"I'm not mad at anything. God bless him, whorever he is," he added.
