Woman killed, teens injured when pickup slammed into tree

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman is dead and two teenage passengers were injured in a morning wreck along the East Freeway.

The accident happened just before 7:30am on the eastbound lanes of I-10 near Waco. Police say a woman driving a red Ford Ranger pickup truck was trying to pass a Toyota Camry at a high rate of speed when she lost control and struck the Camry. The truck left the road, flipped and struck a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the pickup truck, a boy, 15, and a girl, 14, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Camry was not injured. The identity of the driver killed has not been released.
