ALVIN, TX (KTRK) -- Linda Fite's daughter said her mom was loved by many.

"She was very friendly, everyone loved her, said she was a hard worker. My mom, she was just trying to make it like everyone else," said Rachel Meyers, Linda Fite's daughter.

Police say Fite was on her way to work on Saturday morning around 6:15 when the side mirror of a truck, possibly a Ford F-150, hit her. It happened on Willis Street near Lee St in Alvin.

It was dark outside. Fite's work uniform was dark. Also, there are no street lights on Willis Street and there were not sidewalks in the area Fite was walking along.

Fite was rushed to the hospital after suffering a serious head injury.

"She was on life support when we saw her and her body was slowly shutting down," said Meyers.

Hours later, she died. Police say the truck is a 2013 or newer model. Investigators said the driver left the scene.

Fite's family has a request. "For that person to come forward. We would really appreciate it," said Meyers.

Meyers also wants change. She said the driver may have been speeding.

Neighbors told us many cars race down Willis Street every day.

After 13 Eyewitness News told Alvin PD about the speeding concern, they vowed to increase patrol in the area.

13 Eyewitness News also called Alvin's city manager about the lack of sidewalks on Willis Street. The city manager told us Alvin has a long-term sidewalk improvement plan. Additional sidewalks along Willis were not slated for funding under the current plan but in light of the recent fatality, the city will evaluate adding sidewalks to the road more immediately.

It's something Fite's family hopes to see someday soon.

"We miss her. She was our mom and now she's gone forever. There's nothing we can do to bring her back, we would just like for people to be careful," said Meyers
