WILLIS, TX -- Law enforcement officials called off the pursuit of a man in north Montgomery County wanted for possible drug trafficking, which resulted in Willis ISD and Covenant Christian schools going into lockdown.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers requested assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies to set up a perimeter around Interstate 45, between the League Line and FM 830 exits.

MCSO was called out to the scene at 10:15 a.m., but DPS called off the search at about noon, according to a law enforcement source.

Willis ISD released a statement on its official website indicating Willis High School, Brabham Middle School, and both Meador and Turner elementary schools had been placed on lockdown at various points Monday morning and encouraged parents to follow the district's Facebook page for updates.
