Water still gushing after main breaks in Houston's Third Ward

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- At the corner of Tuam Street and Tierwester Street in Houston's Third Ward, water continues to gush out of the ground this morning.

Neighbors, like LaKaisha Furlow, say the problem first appeared almost 24 hours ago, and the situation has only deteriorated since then. Furlow and others recalled how a truck got stuck and even a dog fell into the growing hole.

"They just said it was a little hole. Then it started erupting and came wider and wider. A puppy just fell up in there, kind of swam on out. We need some help. We just need some help on this street. It got bigger and bigger. They came on out here but we don't know what's going on," said Furlow. "We need some help on these streets. Our cars are being torn up. The tires are getting warn up. I don't know what the city is going to do. It's just sad."

Eyewitness News spotted city crews and police officers on scene overnight Wednesday. They blocked off the street with bright orange cones, but the water continued flowing out onto the road.

City crews wouldn't comment on an exact game plan, but they did say others should be out later today to address the problem.
