HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A person of interest in the the double murder of a man and transgender woman in Midtown is being questioned by Houston police.

Robert Isaac and Willie Sims, both 34, were killed late Sunday at 1100 Dennis Street near the Fannin Street intersection around 11:15pm.

Eyewitness News cameras were there Wednesday afternoon as community activist Quanell X escorted a transgender woman into Houston Police Department headquarters.

Quanell X says what happened was not a hate crime.

"This is not a hate crime, she was not attacked for her gender," he said. "This has everything to do with drugs, prostitution and a whole lot of criminal activity where this unfortunate tragedy took place."

Police have not made any arrests in the case and no charges have been filed.
