HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An SUV stolen from a teenager during a carjacking in which he was killed was pulled from a wooded area in northeast Houston Wednesday morning.
A group of men who shot and killed the teen stole the vehicle. It happened around 1:45am near the North Forest Trails Apartments in the 8900 block of Burl Street at Woodlyn Road.
Police say the teen, identified by family members as Adrian, took his father's black GMC Yukon without his dad's permission to go pick up some friends. While on the phone with his friends, the 16-year-old victim was confronted by two suspects -- one of them black -- in a white four-door car.
At some point, a shot was fired and the teen was struck. The suspects then took the SUV and left the teen to die.
HPD says witnesses say only one shot was fired and one shell casing was recovered at the scene.
Police were called to the scene at 1:48am. Ramon Cervantes, of HPD Homicide, said, "When they arrived there to the location on Burl...family members were already there."
Paramedics tried to save Adrian, but he died.
Five hours later, a wrecker driver about a mile away from the shooting scene saw flashing lights from an SUV in a wooded area in the 9200 block of Denton and Snowden.
Now, police hope to find fingerprints in that vehicle and any clues that can lead to the killer and bring justice to a grieving family.
Ivan Anguian, the victim's cousin, said, "The last time I saw him is the last picture I have of him, too. ... We used to mess with him about his hair -- call him the Mexican Justin Bieber. Just -- he didn't deserve what happened to him."
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS,
If you would like to help the family, a GoFundMe site is set up to help with services and a burial.
