SUV smashes into Taco Bell in League City

LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- A driver was taken to a hospital in critical condition after smashing an SUV into a Taco Bell restaurant in League City.

The accident happened at about 11:15am in the 1700 block of West Main Street. The driver, a 69-year-old woman was found unconscious by first responders and transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center by League City EMS. The cause of the accident is still under investigation; however, witnesses report the SUV ran the red light at Hobbs and West Main Street, striking a City of League City truck before hitting the restaurant. No other injuries were reported. The woman was the only person in the SUV.

League City Volunteer Fire Department was on scene assisting with building safety issues.

Accident investigators will be intermittently shutting down one lane of traffic. Drivers in the area should expect delays.
