Students and faculty try to deal with deadly bus wreck

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston ISD says the school bus involved in a wreck that killed two students was headed to the Furr High School campus, which is also home to the Reach Charter High School.

As you can imagine, word of the deadly school bus crash is hitting some students and parents hard. There was a lot of anxiety and confusion. Many people hadn't even heard of the crash.

HISD says those female students who were killed in the accident were headed to campus. The 14-year-old girl killed attended Furr HS and the 17-year-old girl who died attended Reach.

Furr High School Principal Bertie Simmons said she knew the girls personally. "They were wonderful. One of them, I talked to just yesterday. She was so excited because she was taking Russian. She was in Pre-AP classes. She told she me just loved this school and she was so glad she was here. She told me, 'I'm going to make something of myself. I'm going to grow up to make something of myself.' All of the students involved in this accident were outstanding students. I know each one of them personally. It's like a personal loss for me."

One senior we spoke with says the mood inside was somber and quiet as the kids waited to find out if they've lost a classmate.

One mother so upset by the images from Sky Eye HD of the damaged school bus raced to campus to make sure her son was OK.

"People are just really depressed, really upset because they never thought this would happen at our school," said senior Shane Broussard. "I didn't expect it either. I'm hoping one of my friends didn't die in that accident."

"I came to this school. I just had to see my son. Just to see him," parent Barbara Lozo told us. "Just to hold him, just to make sure, you know, I mean, it's not something you want to see on the news."

Class went on as scheduled. There was a planned food drive still taking place.

The principal's office tells us they don't plan to cancel any classes.

Many people are now taking to social media to voice their concerns and sending their thoughts and prayers to the families of those young girls involved,
