HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A convenience store robbery ended in deadly gunfire Saturday night on Houston's northwest side. The scene unfolded at a food mart off W 34th Street near Magnum Rd. Investigators said the person killed was one of the robbers. Police found his body with a ski mask still over his head.
Two Hispanic men entered the store armed with pistols and hankerchiefs concealing their faces.
The female store owner turned over money to the robbers as demanded before locking the plexiglass enclosure to protect herself.
At one point, police say one of the robbery suspects began chasing the store owner's 30-year-old son around the shop. Meanwhile, the other suspect attempted to climb over the 8 foot enclosure to get the woman.
The male store clerk pulled a gun and opened fire inside the store. One of the suspects managed to get away, while the other died in the front door of the shop.
"This is Texas. That is the rick you take when you try to take something, you're risking your life," customer Derrick Reed said. "That's what you're facing when you make the decision."
The incident is under investigation.
