Man kidnapped at gunpoint
Officials are trying to figure out why the man may have been targeted

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The search is on for a man who was abducted in north Houston in broad daylight.

Neighbors heard gunshots just before noon on Wiiliam Tell near Exeter. Jose Godina said, "To bring action like that is concerning. We have families everywhere, children everywhere."

Deputies arrived and found a red truck with slashed tires, bullet casings on the ground and the female driver explaining her 29-year-old passenger had just been kidnapped.

Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Gilliland explained, "Evidently he was targeted. As far as why we don't know if it was domestic-related, drug-related, business-related. We don't know and that's what we're trying to figure out."

Deputies say the driver had only known the victim for a week. His first name is Jesus. He had called and asked for a ride from a grocery store on Bellaire Boulevard when they were followed by a yellow truck, then a green SUV.

Investigators say they were eventually run off the road before as many as 11 men got out, stole the driver's phone and purse, fired shots and grabbed the victim.

Neighbor Jose Godina said even though investigators believe he was targeted he is still concerned this crime contaminated the area. "If he's from this area, maybe the guys will come back and look for his family, the whole revenge thing," said Godina.

The investigation is ongoing.
