A suspect is in custody after a shootout with a Polk County deputy, authorities have confirmed.

GOODRICH, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect is in custody after a shootout and a brief chase with officers in Polk County, authorities confirm.

The shootout happened in the Holiday Lake Estates neighborhood near Goodrich.

The suspect (whose name has not yet been released) was incoherently screaming obscenities, witnesses say.

As a deputy approached the house, the suspect fired multiple shots but did not hit the deputy, the Polk County Sheriff's Office says.

The deputy returned fire and struck the suspect, who then fled the scene.

After a brief chase, the suspect crashed out and was taken into custody.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The deputy was also taken to a hospital after reporting elevated blood pressure.

No other details have been released.
