Bus tipped over into ditch in The Heights

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- AFTER SCHOOL CLOSURES

Aldine ISD elementary and intermediate schools have canceled all of their after-school activities for Wednesday, due to the inclement weather.

The Parent University meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening has also been canceled.

Several Houston Independent School District after-school activities scheduled for Wednesday have been canceled due to flooding and dangerous road conditions.

The cancellation effects all after-school activities and athletic events except for high school varsity girls and boys basketball games.

High school varsity girls and boys basketball games scheduled for today will go on as planned.

All HISD schools will dismiss today at their regular time.

Students who were unable to attend school due to weather will be given an excused absence.

  • Post Oak School-Museum District
  • Presbyterian School
  • St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Montrose
  • Saint Thomas Episcopal School
  • Neighborhood Centers Promise Community Schools
  • Head Start centers

Several school buses have been seen stuck as a result of slick roads or high water. One bus in The Heights nearly tipped over into a ditch off Kansas Street.

ABC13 spoke to the man who helped the driver of the bus who said the driver didn't realize the ditch was there. She told Guadalupe Barajas that the street had disappeared when the road flooded.

An ABC13 Eyewitness News viewer shared a photo of another school bus that got stuck in the median at Beechnut and Ferris.

And on Griggs and Broad St., a viewer shared a photo of a bus in high water under the overpass.
