SAN DIEGO, CA (KTRK) -- Some taxi drivers in San Diego, California are upset about how officials at the San Diego International Airport judge taxi drivers.

Among 52 items of criteria drivers have to pass, body odor is one of them.

Along with proof of insurance, good brakes and functioning windshield wipers, drivers also have to smell good. If they don't, they're told to change before picking up another customer.

Some customers agree with this rule but others don't.

"Should a cab driver be required to smell good? Yes, definitely, please, please.""it shouldn't be a requirement, no," one customer said.

Leaders of the Taxi Workers of San Diego Union say, it's prejudice and discrimination. They also say, it adds to the stereotype that predominantly foreign-born taxi drivers smell bad.
