HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A suspect wanted in connection to a murder in San Antonio has been arrested after authorities found him hiding under a bed inside a southwest Houston apartment.

Jose Antonio Gonzalez, 40, was arrested Tuesday evening in the 12200 block of Sunset Meadow Lane by members of the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. Authorities say he was hiding underneath a bed inside an upstairs apartment unit.

Gonzalez is accused of shooting a man during a fight near downtown San Antonio on June 30. Witnesses allegedly saw Gonzalez and his girlfriend stuff the victim's body into the trunk of a car, which was later found abandoned somewhere else.

The next day, authorities filed the charged against Gonzalez and his girlfriend, 31-year-old Trudy Ramos. Ramos was arrested hours later but Gonzalez remained missing. Authorities say an investigation determined he had fled to Houston so they solicited the held of authorities in the Houston area to track him down.

"Outstanding work by the San Antonio Police Department, Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, and The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. All three agencies worked together to accomplish 1 mission: Find him, arrest him, and put him behind bars," Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, said in a prepared statement.

Gonzalez is currently being held at the Harris County Jail awaiting extradition to Bexar County.
