Road worker struck by hit-and-run driver
The accident happened on the East Loop while a road crew was cleaning up debris.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A cleanup worker is in the hospital after a driver ran over him on the East Loop and took off around 9:45am. Houston police officers told Eyewitness News the man was standing next to his work truck when a driver in a white Pontiac Grand Prix slammed into him, pumped his brakes, and then fled the scene.

The accident happened into the 24A exit ramp to McCarty Drive in the westbound lanes. Others workers said the incident happened so quickly they couldn't get a description of the wanted driver. Eyewitness News crews could still see skid marks on the ground.

Paramedics rushed the injured man to Ben Taub Hospital. The extent of his injuries remains unknown. TxDOT told abc13 the crew involved is contracted. The company name "DBi services" was listed on the trucks.
