New push to eliminate "anti-feeding" ordinance involving the homeless

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There is a new push to eliminate Houston's "anti-feeding" ordinance.

Just days before Thanksgiving, Good Samaritans are urging the city to lift the restrictions on feeding the homeless.

Nearly 75,000 signed petitions were delivered to City Hall Tuesday afternoon -- all demanding a policy change.

"We need to continue to be the beacon for people to show that we are humane for our homeless community," an activist said.

Kristy Anderson never thought she would be living on the street. But the 53-year-old mother and college graduate now relies on others for food.

"It makes me feel good," Anderson said. "Somebody cares."

The Coalition for the Homeless has identified homeless hot spots in the area: downtown Houston, Midtown, Third Ward, Museum District, Medical Center, NRG Stadium and Montrose.
