Police: Woman catches boyfriend assaulting 4-year-old granddaughter

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 39-year-old man is in police custody, accused of sexually assaulting his girlfriend's 4-year-old granddaughter.

It happened in the 8300 block of Ponnel in north Houston.

Investigators say after relatives learned of the inappropriate sexual contact with the little girl, the suspect assaulted his girlfriend to keep her from calling 911. He then barricaded himself in the house for 10 minutes before surrendering to police.

The child was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Charges of assault and sexual assault of a child are pending against the suspect.
