Police detain 14 in suspected illegal immigration bust

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police detained a group of illegal immigrants from South America during a traffic stop early this morning.

Just after midnight, HPD responded to a suspicious vehicle call at a Chevon gas station on Washington at the Katy Freeway.

A Ford F-250 pickup truck took off when the driver saw police and drive across the street. Police say the driver did not get far because of a flat tire.

When the driver stopped, police say five people ran from the truck and into a neighborhood. Officers managed to catch all of them.

Nine others stayed inside the truck. HPD took 14 people into custody.

ICE is now joining the investigation and plans to interview all 14 people.
