RICHMOND, TX (KTRK) -- Called 'Operation Turkey Shoot' by detectives in Ft. Bend County, nine men were arrested, four of whom allegedly attempted to meet who they thought was going to be a teenage girl.
The three-day undercover operation took place Nov. 18, 19 and 20. Investigators showed video of one of those suspects actually running, trying to get away as officers chased him through Richmond.
Abdahllah Darawasha was arrested and discovered with $4,000 cash on him which investigators believe he might have used to try and convince his victim to have sex.
Another man, 46 year old James Paul Goates of Richmond, was arrested after trying to meet two different girls he believed he had been chatting with. Both were undercover law enforcement officers.
Detectives posed as a teen girl on a number of social media sites, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others, engaging in conversations with men who they say clearly were interested in sex with the underage girl.
Four were arrested after attempting to meet that child, who turned out to be detectives. Authorities say this is proof that parents need to watch their child's online activities closely.
"We want parents to know these guy are out there looking for kids online," said Detective Jarret Nethery with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force. "Get involved with children's activities online. Parents need to know what's going on."
