HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say a Family Dollar cashier fired twice at robbery suspect after he demanded money this morning at a store in northwest Houston. The suspect died from the gunshot wounds.
Houston police have not said whether the suspect -- who was masked during the incident -- was armed. He died at the scene. His age is unknown at this time.

The robbery in progress was reported at about 9:30am at the store in the 8600 block of West Montgomery Road.
Police say a couple of patrons were inside the store at the time of the robbery, but didn't hear anything. About three other employees were inside the store as well. No one else was hurt.
HPD has gotten surveillance video and are reviewing it. However, it appears the suspect was alone.
Police say they're looking into whether the cashier was licensed to carry a gun.
HPD says there is a lot of crime in that area -- including a couple robberies last night. However, as of right now, it's unclear whether those cases and this attempted robbery are related.
