Ohio officer in Houston set to select new dog after K9 killed

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston based group is donating a new police dog to an officer who lost his K9 partner in the line of duty.

The officer works for the Canton Police Department in Canton, Ohio. He's narrowed it down to three K9's and will select his next partner to fight crime Monday.

Jethro, Officer Ryan Davis' police dog, was shot to death last week by a suspected burglar. He was not wearing a dog bullet proof vest.

"This one is just on such a deeper level because I spend more time with him than I do with my family," Davis said.

Davis will return to Ohio with his new partner Tuesday.

The group, K9s4COPs, was founded after Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Ted Dahlin lost his K9 in the line of duty.
