HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Officers are bringing in the driver for a formal investigation of a fatal accident at Gessner and Westheimer in West Houston.
He could face manslaughter charges if found to be at fault for the accident or under the influence.
Police say around 3 a.m. on Sunday a man was heading northbound on Gessner and lost control.
The driver hit a water main, causing it to gush water as he ran into a sign.
The impact caused the rear driver's side door to be ripped off.
A passenger who was sitting in the backseat died at the scene.
Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the driver and examining him for possible DWI.
Neither the driver or his passenger in the front the seat suffered injuries in the crash.
