Investigators begin digging in search for clues in missing person's case
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Investigators are on the scene at a location in Brazoria County that they believe could contain clues to a young woman's disappearance. Digging has begun at a field near Highway 288.
Authorities believe they may find clues in a cold case of a young woman who went missing in the Dallas area in 1997. Kidnapping suspect William Reece has been linked to the investigation.
Reece has been a person of interest in the 1997 disappearance of Kelli Cox in Denton. Denton police visited Houston in connection to that cold case.
Human remains found at a site on East Orem Drive after three weeks of digging there are currently being tested. at the University of North Texas forensics lab. Authorities are trying to determine if the bones belong to 17-year-old Jessica Cain, who vanished nearly 20 years ago. Reece led investigators to that location, and frequently was seen at the site in handcuffs and shackles.
Police sources tell Eyewitness News the human remains could be positively identified as early as this week.
