Mom charged after 2-year-old dies from ingesting her pills in Pennsylvania

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA -- A mother has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Montgomery District Attorney Kevin Steele and Upper Merion Police Chief Thomas Nolan made the announcement on Wednesday.

Trinity Griffith was found dead at 10:55am. on July 30, 2015, at the Motel 6 in King of Prussia by the Upper Merion Township Police.

Authorities say the investigation revealed that Subutex and Klonopin pills, prescribed to Christina Griffith, had reportedly fallen to the floor and were then ingested by Trinity.

Officials say Griffith watched her daughter ingest the medication, but did not seek timely medical treatment for her daughter, which according to doctors authorities spoke with would have saved her life.

An autopsy determined the cause of death as combined drug intoxication. Toxicology tests showed two DEA Scheduled substances in her system: buprenorphine (brand name Subutex), a medication used to treat narcotic addiction, and clonazepam (brand name Klonopin), an anti-anxiety medication.

Griffith was arraigned Wednesday morning. Bail was set at $500,000 cash.
