HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The mother of an HISD student who claims she was bullied and beaten up has questions about how the incident is being handled.
Alexis Saenz says she thought her junior year at Wheatley would be a fresh start and chance to focus on her school work but a few weeks into the school year the girl she claims is a bully came back.
"She started messing with me over a guy. The guy don't want her, I don't want him either," she said.
On Monday Saenz says she was in 6th period class when the girl she's had runs in with before knocked her book bag to the floor when the teacher was out of the room. The Wheatley student says what happened next was all captured on this video by classmates adding.
"I went blind for a moment next minute she grabbed my hair and threw me on the floor and was banging my face on the floor, punching me, kicking me," she said.
Alexis' mother Laura says she was appalled to get the call from her daughter that she had been hurt at school.
She says, "This was my biggest fear and then to see the video."
She showed us her daughter's medical papers diagnosing a concussion and contusion after the fight.
"I think the district needs to take a serious policy on this bullying. They say it's no tolerance. It was tolerated," says the mother.
HISD Spokesperson Sheleah Reed says they take this situation very seriously adding:
"The safety of our students is always our top priority. Fighting on our campus is never tolerated. School administrators are in the process of determining the appropriate consequences for the behavior of the students involved."
While there is no specific teacher policy regarding reacting to fights she adds, "They should however, try to maintain order, keep others students safe, ask those involved to stop and to call or request help."
Reed also says, "We take all accusations of bullying seriously and investigate them. There is no record of any reported incidents associated with this student."
Alexis Saenz says a fellow student helped pull the girl off of her and HISD police arrived after that.
"That teacher could have stepped in there, I asked why there aren't panic buttons in there," her mother said.
The teen is recovering from her physical wounds.
"I'm scared to go back to school," she said.
Her mother is concerned the emotional wounds may be longer lasting.
"It has to stop. Bullying is not acceptable," says Laura Saenz.
HISD says, "We take all accusations of bullying seriously and investigate them. There is no record of any reported incidents associated with this student."
