Mom arrested in connection to death of son's prom date

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 39-year-old mother has been charged in connection with the death of her son's prom date.

Jackie Gomez, 17, was found dead in a hotel room she and boyfriend Eddie Herrera, 18, shared after prom. Hydrocodone and alcohol were found in her system.

Herrera admitted to calling his mom to help him dress Gomez before calling 911.

Investigators say Herrera's mom, Melissa Martinez, 39, also helped the couple get the alcohol and drugs. She was arrested on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of purchasing and furnishing alcohol to minors. She is now out on bond.
